Icon - Rural Region
Icon - Suburban Region
Icon - Urban Region
Icons - Urban, Suburban, & Rural Regions
Region icons that I designed for my Communication Design I course.
The goal of the project was to create three different expressive icons that fit together as a set, but are different enough to distinguish from one another based on the theme: regions.
The three different areas that I chose were urban, suburban and rural areas. I felt that a skyscraper best represented the urban area, a house best represented the suburban area and a barn best represented the rural area, so I created stylized recognizable images of each of these structures striped down to their bear essentials, which they have in common (i.e. each one has a door).
I felt that I could add a second level of information and another distinguishing relationship between theses areas by adding the relative amount of land that is between structures in these areas, for instance, the urban area having the least amount of land and the rural area having the most amount of land. I added expression to the logos by using of a sharpie to draw the icons and by photocopying and scanning the images in.
